Help in a crisis

At Hymhus we are committed to supporting people in difficult times.

We cannot provide emergency support but please know that we genuinely care and that there is help available.

Also please know that if you email or message us, we might not be able to respond straight away but that we will read everything you send and that your words are important. Bringing Compassion is a value at the heart of our organisation and we are committed to bringing a non-judgemental attitude to supporting people when they are struggling.

Some ideas that may help if you are overwhelmed just now

  • Connect with someone. Is there someone who you could talk to or text? Is there someone you could ask to listen to you?

  • It’s fine to let your feelings flow. It is normal to experience a range of emotions and all your feelings are valid. Emotions move in arcs and change over time; intense feelings will pass.

  • If you are feeling shut down, numb or disconnected, gentle movement may help. Giving yourself a hug, pressing firmly on your shoulders as you make a downwards movement can signal a sense of safety to your nervous system. ‘Voo’ breathing is also a useful tool.

  • Movement - going outside, going for a walk to the beach or doing some Yoga might feel like a struggle but can help shift your emotional state. There are many free guided Yoga routines online.

  • Listening to music, singing, dancing, drawing, writing or doodling are all ways to help express your feelings.
